O’Keeffe Class have been ‘sorting for science’

In O’Keeffe we have been sorting different plastics according to their properties, for example:

size, shape, opaqueness/transparency/translucency, flexibility, whether they sink or float, or the number on the bottom.  We have also used a sorting key to identify different types of plastic such as LDPE, PET, PP or UPVC, as well as placing items on a timeline according to how long we thought they would take to decompose.  We were shocked to find out that glossy magazines can take 50 years and plastic bottles 450 years to decompose!!!
