Mr Benedict Alexander

PPA Teacher

I qualified as a teacher in 2000 having originally trained as an engineer. After teaching in Nottingham, where I went to university, I moved to Hove on the south coast. I then taught in a number of schools in the Crawley area before moving to Estcots in the autumn of 2015.

Although I have only been at the school for a short time I have found it to be a fantastic place to teach with sociable children who are excited about their learning and proud of the work they do.

A Few Things About Me

Having grown up in the wilds of north Cornwall I spent most of my time building dens, exploring the woods and falling out of trees. You could say I was an early adopter of the forest schools approach to learning.

Nowadays my hobbies are a little less dangerous or strenuous, and I enjoy riding my bike, reading and spending time with my wife and two young daughters.

Mrs Ruth Gray

Year 5 Teacher & Phase 3 Leader

I completed a four-year BA Primary Education degree at Chichester University in 2002, having decided to train as a teacher after a long career in social work. My degree in English with Education has supported me in developing a passion for the teaching of English to young children.

Prior to moving to Estcots school I worked for eleven years as a class teacher and leader at a school in Crawley. I believe passionately in a personalised education for every child, I have a holistic approach to working with children and always aim to meet individual needs. This includes building self-esteem and teaching children to value learning. I love working here at Estcots and coming into school each morning is a pleasure.

A Few Things About Me

I live in Burgess Hill will my husband Steve and two of my four adult children. I have a large extended family and my favourite part of the week, apart of course from being in school, is our regular family breakfast on a Saturday morning!

I swim several mornings a week and go to an evening yoga class.

Teaching Assistant

I have been at Estcots for over 15 years. Previously I ran a local pre-school and before that had a career in banking.

I am married with 2 grown up children who attended local schools. I really enjoy working with the children at Estcots and have had the privilege of watching some of them start as shy reception children, blossom into confident year 6 ‘s and now find that some of them are appearing as very personable young adults in their Saturday jobs in the town!

Being part of the dedicated and hard working Estcots team who always put the children first and enable this to happen is very rewarding.

A Few Things About Me

When not in school, I am a keen gardener, dressmaker, National Trust visitor and I also like to try out the “Bake Off” recipes with varying degrees of success!

Teaching Assistant

After spending many years bringing up my children and volunteering at Estcots I made the decision that working with children was for me.

I decided to go back to college and retrain as a Teaching Assistant. I was fortunate to be offered  a position at Estcots School where I could start fulfilling my passion for working with children and achieving my goals.

I currently work in Early Years and absolutely love the daily challenges this brings as well as being part of a fantastic team that is well placed to watch the children learn and grow.

A Few Things About Me

Outside of work I spend most of my weekends watching my two boys playing football, normally in the pouring rain.

I also love to spend time with friends, going to the cinema, eating out and taking walks in the countryside.
